Journaling
A logging technique originally developed for transaction processing that a recovery filesystem such as NTFS uses to ensure volume consistency. See: $Extend and $UsnJrnl attributes within the MFT record (Master File Table (MFT)), Log File, Logging, and Recoverable Filesystem.

Jumper Block (shunt or switch)
A small, plastic-covered metal clip that slips over two pins protruding from a circuit board. When in place, the jumper block connects the pins electronically and closes the circuit. By doing so, it connects the two terminals of a switch, turning it “on.”
